Union Thugs Disrupt Wisconsin
State Fair

Power Line, by John Hinderaker

Wisconsin’s public sector unions are ramping up hysteria in anticipation of the recall elections on Tuesday. A reported $15 million, most of it from out of state, has been spent on behalf of the left-wing candidates in the recall races. Yesterday, Scott Walker opened the Wisconsin State Fair, as is traditionally done by the governor. But the unions couldn’t let their hyperpartisanship rest even for fifteen minutes, and they put on a disgraceful delay:

Mob Rampages Through Wisconsin State Fair
Witnesses describe random assaults

FOX

(NewsCore) - A mob of young people rampaged through the Wisconsin State Fair and attacked attendees outside the fairgrounds in what witnesses say may have been a racially-charged incident, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Friday.

The paper reported the incidents appear to have started as early as 7:00pm Thursday night in the fair's midway -- the area that features the popular event's games and rides. As the fair's opening night ended at 11:00pm, the paper said police confirmed that a number of assaults took place outside the fairgrounds, which are located on the border of Milwaukee and West Allis., Wis.

According to the Journal Sentinel, police declined to provide more information early Friday as they continued their investigation.

A concession worker told the newspaper that large groups of African-American youths began running through the midway around 7:00pm, knocking people over, disrupting rides and tearing up signs.

Union: Obama should attack 'Unpatriotic' Apple
The Washington Examiner, by Joel Gehrke

International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union President Jim Hoffa told Candy Crowley on "State of the Union" that President Obama should attack American companies in his upcoming speech for being "unpatriotic" by investing on other countries.

Hoffa admitted that it is cheaper for companies to invest in other countries -"we know that," he said - but maintained that companies "have an obligation to America to build [factories] in America." Hoffa then called on Obama to attack companies who invest overseas in his upcoming jobs speech:

I think the president should challenge the patriotism of these American corporations that are sitting on the sidelines saying, why do we have high unemployment but I am not going to hire anybody? You know, they have an obligation just like the federal government, just like Obama. We have all got to get into the game. And I don't see that happening. So the trillions and billions of dollars that they have on the sidelines, they have money, Pfizer and General Electric, they have trillions of dollars overseas, let's start repatriating that money. Let's start a program to get America going again.

Hey spores?

Is this an example of how you union people ''collectively bargain for the best possible deal''?

Does the AFL-CIO support union
violence? Trumka spokesman
deflects question, blames Breitbart

Daily Caller, by Matthew Boyle

The AFL-CIO labor union appears, at least theoretically, to support violence and vandalism when union members use those tactics in the interest of furthering “legitimate union activity.”

Last week, top AFL-CIO lawyer Jonathan D. Newman attempted to file an amicus brief in federal court after local union officials in Buffalo, N.Y. were charged with several acts of violence.

The Buffalo News reports that members of Operating Engineers Local 17 are charged with pouring sand into construction vehicles’ engines, stabbing a company executive in the neck, tossing hot coffee at non-union workers and threatening to sexually assault the wife of a company representative.

“We’re not condoning the allegations or arguing that union officials are completely immune from prosecution,” Newman said. “Instead, we simply want to make sure that the [federal law] is not interpreted in a way that could have a chilling effect on legitimate union activity.”

Video: Unionized Longshoremen
Assault Police Officers

Townhall, by Guy Benson

An update to a story we covered a few weeks ago, starring the AFL-CIO's very own Local ILWU in Washington State. You may recall that these classy gentlemen are locked in a bitter labor dispute with a company at the Port of Longview (a company, by the way, that actually employs other unionized workers). The Longshoremen are incensed, you see, because they've been denied their God-given "right" to work at an EGT facility -- and they've responded with characteristic restraint and circumspection. And by that, I mean they've damaged railroad cars, sabotaged brake lines, destroyed property, criminally trespassed, taken security guards hostage, and threatened police with baseball bats. When the local media sought an explanation for this criminal behavior, they were greeted by this fine fellow. Now that we're all caught up, here's aerial footage of the latest ILWU protest, at which members attacked the police:

Via Verum Serum, here's the local union president Dan Coffman admitting on camera that his members became violent, while blaming the violence on....the cops, for supposedly "physically abusing" women.
As evidenced by the clip above, that's complete baloney, but let's watch this Trumkaite spin his yarn of nonsense anyway:

Get a load of this ''deal''.

Because these parents are taking care of their mentally disabled children with the help of state disability funds, the union considers them to be ''state employees'' and deducts 30 per month from the state disability check.

oh and....THEY RECEIVE NO UNION BENEFITS WHATSOEVER.

unfuckingbelievable.

SEIU siphons 'dues' from Mich. Medicaid payments
Washington Examiner, by Joel Gehrke

If you're a parent who accepts Medicaid payments from the State of Michigan to help support your mentally-disabled adult children, you qualify as a state employee for the purposes of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). They can now claim and receive a portion of your Medicaid in the form of union dues.

Robert and Patricia Haynes live in Michigan with their two adult children, who have cerebral palsy. The state government provides the family with insurance through Medicaid, but also treats them as caregivers. For the SEIU, this makes them public employees and thus members of the union, which receives $30 out of the family's monthly Medicaid subsidy. The Michigan Quality Community Care Council (MQC3) deducts union dues on behalf of SEIU.

Michigan Department of Community Health Director Olga Dazzo explained the process in to her members of her staff. "MQC3 basically runs the program for SEIU and passes the union dues from the state to the union," she wrote in an email obtained by the Mackinac Center. Initiated in 2006 under then-Gov. Jennifer Granhol, D-Mich., the plan reportedly provides the SEIU with $6 million annually in union dues deducted from those Medicaid subsidies.

“We're not even home health care workers. We're just parents taking care of our kids,” Robert Haynes, a retired Detroit police officer, told the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. “Our daughter is 34 and our son is 30. They have cerebral palsy. They are basically like 6-month-olds in adult bodies. They need to be fed and they wear diapers. We could sure use that $30 a month that's being sent to the union.”

That is absolutely disgusting. Are there any type of benefits available to these people for their "dues"?

Is there a union member that can answer this? There HAS to be a member with stones enough to help them.

Don't paint your whole organization as yellow and soulless.

AFL-CIO Booklet For Occupiers Explicitly Promotes Socialism To Replace Capitalism
Image
Unions are the most destructive left-wing force in America.

Quote:
The AFL-CIO has not been bashful about its support for the Occupy Wall Street protesters. And the union giant recently posted an article by Tula Connell hyping a booklet entitled “Economics 101 for the 99%.” The booklet was produced for the Occupiers by a socialist group called the Center for Popular Economics.

Connell wrote that the booklet will clarify “such concepts as the role of the Federal Reserve and the so-called austerity war.” The booklet is intended to “to help the ‘99%’ make a coherent argument for why we need to change our economic course.”

A glance through the booklet reveals standard leftist pap about the evils of capitalism and how the glories of socialism will make the world a better place. Strangely missing are examples of socialism’s actual track record. Greece, Spain and Italy appear nowhere in the booklet.

(It does ask “why, if we are only to have a life expectancy equal to Portugal’s, we should spend over $4,000 more per person.” The simple answer: Portugal’s universal health care system is part of an unsustainable welfare state that necessitated a $100+ billion bailout by the EU two years ago. As a result, Portugal’s healthcare fees have doubled recently – not an easy pill to swallow in a nation where the average annual salary is $16,400 and income is expected to fall 3.25% in 2012. Other fun Portuguese facts: unemployment is 14%, a third of public hospitals are insolvent and, according to the Portuguese Society of Cardiology “1 in 4 Portuguese runs a high risk of dying of a heart attack or stroke in the next 10 years, but only 30% of those at risk take adequate medication.)

The booklet explicitly promotes socialism to replace capitalism, and blames what it terms the “neoliberal paradigm” for the 2008 financial melt down. “Neoliberalism” is described as “tax cuts, attacks on social welfare programs, privatization, deregulation, ‘free’ trade, and anti-worker/union measures.” In short, neoliberalism is anything that moves power and resources away from the central government.

AFL-CIO offers list of union- approved Halloween candy
Daily Caller, by Caroline May

Halloween is less than a week away and, just in time for Americans stocking up on candy, the AFL-CIO has identified the most union-friendly candy available.

Yes, there is such a thing as union-approved candy.

“If you want your Halloween to be all treats and no tricks, make sure all your candy is union-made, made in America,” Jackie Tortora writes at the AFL-CIO’s blog, linking to Local 144’s “Buy Union Directory.”

Tortora provides a list of union-approved candy highlights from the directory including Baby Ruths, Butterfingers, Caramellos, Hershey’s Candy Corn Kisses, Hershey’s Extra Dark Chocolate bars, Hershey’s Hugs, Hershey’s Kisses, Hershey’s Nuggets, Jelly Belly candies, Kit Kats, Laffy Taffy, Mike and Ikes, Rolos, Super Ropes, Tootsie Rolls and Trolli candies.

..in all honesty, I do appreciate them publishing this list.

Makes it much much easier for me to know who to boycott.

Senate set to approve constitutional amendment targeting unions

INDIANAPOLIS | A proposed constitutional amendment requiring a secret ballot be used in union organizing elections is set for a final Senate vote Tuesday after the Republican-controlled chamber rejected a change that would have forced all private groups to use secret ballots in their elections.

State Sen. Karen Tallian, D-Ogden Dunes, suggested adding civic, nonprofit, church, fraternal and other organizations to the secret ballot requirement for unions included in the proposed amendment, Senate Joint Resolution 2.

"If it's good enough to apply to the unions, why isn't it good enough to apply to all elections in the state of Indiana?" Tallian asked.

State Sen. Michael Young, R-Indianapolis, seemed to endorse secret ballots for all before launching into an anti-union tirade that suggested unions are against secret ballots so they can intimidate workers into voting for a union.

Young later relied on an Arizona court decision to defend the proposed amendment when state Sen. Frank Mrvan, D-Hammond, questioned how Indiana could put conditions on elections required under federal law.

Tallian's proposal was defeated on a party-line vote, 12-37.

The amendment is intended to block a proposed federal law, known as "card check," that would allow a workplace union to form without an election if more than half the employees signed union authorization cards.

The proposed amendment states: "The right to vote by secret ballot is fundamental. If any Indiana or federal law requires or permits an election for any designation or authorization of employee representation, the right of any individual to vote by secret ballot in any such election is guaranteed."
