Two Lake County police officers placed on restricted duty

CROWN POINT | Two Lake County police officers have been placed on restricted duty, officials said Tuesday.

Patrol officers Joseph Molina and Aaron Ramos were removed from street patrol due to a pending investigation into their possible involvement in a Crown Point bar incident Saturday, Lake County Sheriff John Buncich announced in a news release.

Charges were filed Tuesday against Ramos, 37, of Crown Point, in connection to the Sunday morning incident.

He was charged with battery, public intoxication and disorderly conduct, all Class B misdemeanors. He also was charged with resisting law enforcement and battery on a law enforcement officer, both Class A misdemeanors.

No charges were filed with the county for Molina as of Tuesday night, according to the Lake County website.

Molina has been on the force for seven years; Ramos is a three-year veteran.

The Lake County Sheriff Merit Board will address the allegations and possibility of disciplinary action at the Nov. 17 meeting.

Does anybody know the particulars of what happened, or which CP bar it took place at?

Details of Lake County officer's alleged bar brawl released

CROWN POINT | Police released details Wednesday of the Sunday morning bar brawl that landed two Lake County officers on restricted duty until further notice.

County officer Aaron Ramos allegedly hit a bar security guard after the man began arguing with Joseph Molina, another officer and friend of Ramos, according to a Crown Point police probable cause affidavit.

Ramos, 37, of Crown Point, and Molina were taken off street patrol while the Lake County Sheriff Merit Board and police investigate.

Crown Point police were dispatched to Buddy & Pal's Place, 1206 E. Summit St., just after midnight on Sunday morning.

When Crown Point officers arrived at the bar, Ramos had been pinned to the floor by bar security guards. The bar security guard told officers Ramos struck him in the head from behind several times.

While Ramos was being escorted from the bar, he allegedly struck one of the Crown Point officers in the jaw and continued swinging at the officer after hitting him, the report states.

He also refused to take an alcohol test, the affidavit states.

Ramos was charged with battery, public intoxication and disorderly conduct, all Class B misdemeanors and resisting law enforcement and battery on a law enforcement officer, both are Class A misdemeanors.

Molina was not charged in the incident.

Ramos was identified by Crown Point police by his Lake County police ID, the affidavit states.

Ramos is due in court Dec. 19 for an initial hearing.

Thank you officer, for teaching us to always refuse the breathalyzer. This confirms the rumors that it can only work against you.

One learns so much by observing a cops behavior.
Who better knows the law than the one who enforces them?

I give praise to the cop that had arrested him, for not accepting his ID as a "free pass".
You upheld your oath and should be proud.

Nope.

I just found the observation in his comment interesting.
