Reason for this is due to NIMS (National Incident Management Service). This is Homeland Securitys way to get everyone on the same page in case of a major incident, instead of each dept. using their own lingo. The feds are making this mandatory if your dept. wants to receive any federal grant money.

I guess it would make sense if you're in a pursuit and cross city, county lines to have everyone speaking the king's english. I like the 10 codes though. They make cops sound enigmatic.

What if cops in 2 diff'rent cities aint speakin the same slang dough'? What if they cease to communicate bc of slang barriers?
