CROWN POINT | A Crown Point political activist is gathering online petitions against a proposed Lake County income tax.

Karin Mason, who ran for Crown Point mayor in 2007 and the Lake County Council in 2010, said she wants to defeat a proposal by the council to impose a 1.5 percent tax on the personal incomes of county residents and out-of-state residents working in Lake County.

She said she is gathering signatures against the tax on a website at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/kari ... njanowicz/ .

"Lake County cannot afford another tax," Mason said.

She said she understands county government is in need of additional revenues after Republican-inspired legislation has reduced taxes on which local government once relied. Even if the county adopts the income tax, state legislators may divert it away from local services local officials want to support, she said.

Yep...they keep cutting taxes and yet no decrease in unemployment...
Quote:
A Hoosier family earning $50,000 a year would pay $50 less in income taxes once the rate cut takes effect Jan. 1, 2015. A person earning $1 million a year would get a tax cut of $3,400, which is still $11,680 short of being able to hire a full-time worker at the minimum wage with no benefits.

Quote:
Since January, some $360 million, which is 72 percent of the value of Pence's proposed tax cut, has been returned to taxpayers.

The money has not created jobs.

Indiana's unemployment rate stands at 8.7 percent, up from 8.3 percent in December, and the state shed 11,000 private sector jobs in March, according to the Department of Workforce Development.

WOW...that's really jumped started the state economy...

I must admit I was shocked when a little over 200 people attended the county council meeting..WTF..Where are all the less government people at? This will adversely affect the (vast) majority of us...I guess there was no talk of guns...
