The girls in your house should be able to use every set of Legos ever made. In the old days, girls were featured on standard Lego sets, like the one with the medieval theme. We need to go back to those days, when toys like Legos were for everyone and not a certain gender. I loved the medieval set when I was a kid.

It is easy to recycle, once you get the hang of it. I generally have more recycled items in my bin than in the garbage bin. Any glass, cans, milk jugs, heavier plastics, empty paper towel and toilet tissue rolls just go in the recycling bin. I take my newspapers and mail to our church; most schools also have Dumpsters for these items. Also, for cardboard, cereal or pasta boxes, it is easier to flatten them to get more room in your bins. Let’s help the environment; please recycle.

Phasing out the state inheritance tax is just another gift from Gov. Mitch Daniels to the wealthy, at the expense of the rest of us.

Congratulations to the Town Council and town clerk for raising our property taxes in Merrillville. I can’t believe you have the audacity to use the recent shooting of the convenience store clerk to raise our taxes! FYI, Merrillville has more police per capita than any other town in Northwest Indiana. I agree police personnel need raises, but this can be done by cutting more waste. I can’t wait for election time, so the residents of Merrillville can vote down the proposed property tax referendum.

God bless State Rep. Charlie Brown for his fight to make Indiana totally smoke-free. It’s too bad Indiana is such a backward state and still lives in the 1950s.
