DULUTH, Minn. - Some community members are calling for a boycott of the Duluth Air Show because of a combat simulation that U.S. Army recruiters will bring to the show.

The Virtual Army Experience demonstrates what life could be like as a soldier. In one scenario, participants transport aid to threatened humanitarian aid workers while using machine guns and a missile launcher to wipe out terrorists who stand in the way.

That has some calling for a boycott of the air show, which comes to Duluth next week.

Every year since I started getting assigned to the Gary South Shore Air Show, I would ask the editors if I could be among the lucky to go up with a flight team. And every year, I would be told that I had been beaten to the punch, that some other lucky stiff would be flying.

I would bark about it, of course -- to them. But since I'm kind of a chicken when it comes to flying, I would be secretly relieved.

Then Northlake Editor Carole Carlson told me Wednesday I would be flying with Lima Lima on Friday.

So? Did you go up??

I was in Hessville this afternoon and saw a group of 4 fighter jets flying low. Looked like national guard. Had my my Army Surplus anti aircraft weapon ready just in case it was a Commie trick! ;)

All I have to do is go out on the patio.

I strongly believe the reason they perform so heavily over the inner city is too keep the riff Raff from spoiling the show for the out of towners and it works no one from the inner city cares to go to the air show after seeing them for a whole week clowning and hotdogging.

I always go on Friday for the practice, you get to see the whole show without the crowds or crowd control measures.

Been having fun this summer and not living in a fantasy world like some people do.

Getting my stuff ready for a boat trip to northern Michigan in a couple weeks and another month of no internet posting which is always nice
