Chicken Little, do you run around hoping for natural disasters to hit? There was no explosion or deaths, just a leak in a gas line. About 30 homes are evacuated.

The gas is seeping into the sewers and the whole area should be evacuated!

The Hammond National Guard and city emergency personal should be beating on doors and an emergency evacuation center should be open with air conditioning.

Police Chief Brian Miller described as the largest gas leak he has ever seen.

I don't often say nice things about Hammond city services, but I feel the city and Fire Department did a good job keeping the lid on yesterday's gas leak.
Yes, it could have been a disaster but everything turned out OK, thank goodness.
There was no fire at any time. I sneaked into the area and saw everything under control.
I guess it's just a coincidence we had two major gas incidents within a week. A question for Nipsco, though-
are there enough shut off valves on all those gas lines beneath our feet?
So good job on this one, Hammond!
I wish I could post my comment in the Times, but they've got some glitches in their new system. I couldn't even get an email telling them of the problems through to them on their "new" nwi.com.

Of course I do the disability checks are not enough to live on and there are too many on welfare and not made to do anything for it.

Disabled workers that have paid into the system are collecting their benefits.
