We went yesterday afternoon. We had never gone before, and decided to check it out. It was, for the most part, really good. The food was great, the crowds were orderly, and the entertainment was spectacular.

Parking is a nightmare, and the port-a-potties were a horror. They also needed more benches set up for people to sit down.

We WILL go back next year, but will go as soon as they open at 11am, instead of waiting until mid-afternoon.

I was delighted to see that people for the most part were picking up after themselves, keeping the kids under control, and were very polite and civil to each other. It was refreshing to see this, and this is one of the reasons we will make a point to go back next year. It was a family-friendly fest. I highly recommend going there. It is worth the while, to say the least. Be prepared to pay $10 to park if you cannot find a place to park on a side street. There is quite a bit of walking required to see the various offerings, so wear comfy shoes.

If you are going to go to Pierogi fest, park you car in the approved parking lots and use the free shuttle service to the fest. The shuttles run constantly and don't cost a penny. I have quite a few friends in Whiting and they complain about the ignorant jerks who clog up the streets looking for parking spots and taking up the resident's limited street parking. They will ticket and tow you if you park where you shouldn't. Be respectful of Whiting residents and park in the designated lots.

I like Pierogifest because as far as I know, it is financed with sponsorships, not public funds.
Maybe that's because it is run by the Whiting-Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce, not the city?
It also makes a point of the ethnic pride of the citizens. It's not just another booze-soaked greasy carnival like the Fest.
I was dismayed but not surprised to hear Hammond Park Board member Dave Woerpel say on WJOB recently that "I don't care if it costs a million dollars" he supports Festival of the Lakes.
Good job, pierogi people!
