Today marks the 193rd anniversary of Indiana's entrance into the Union. Indiana was the 19th state to join the United States. That position is represented by the 19 stars on the Indiana state flag. When Indiana became a state on Dec. 11, 1816, the population was little more than 60,000 people. Almost all Hoosiers then, including a 7-year-old child named Abraham Lincoln, lived in southern Indiana near the Ohio River. Today, more than 6 million people call Indiana home. Happy Birthday Indiana! |

Well an even more notable accomplishment today was the second execution of a murderer in the state of Indiana. Finally Indiana does something right! |
