I have one....if you live off the government, such as subsidies, welfare, food stamps, medicaid, section 8, and this corrupt Social Security disability system,(we all know there are a lot of phonies in this system) and pay NO taxes (income tax that is)........YOU CANNOT VOTE!!!!! It seems as though the people who pay no taxes are the majority now, who are electing our leaders and deciding the issues. Wow...amazing!

The world is going to cry and be very sad when America is gone. Not good, not good, not good at all.

Personally if you're going that far then maybe only property owners should vote and voting for US Senators should be done by the state legislatures like it used to be. You are correct that any government that allows people who pay in the least or nothing will vote for those who will pass out the most free stuff. That's a given! What's troubling is those who obtain government handouts are beginning to exceed 40% of the population. But I think a more practical resolution is to strip down entitlements, eliminate personal income taxes, and mandate a balanced budget. Someone on Fox News commented that about all the money collected from taxes this year will just go to interest on the national debt. What I noticed about the $970 bil or so projection of revenue "contributions" was that it was about the cost of 10 years of Obamacare (according to the CBO numbers the Dems pushed for through flawed assumptions just prior to the House reconciliation vote). In other words government spending is a train wreck in progress and our only hope is to lessen the casualties. But instead it looks like the Dems are moving more collateral damage towards the impending collision every day. A VAT tax by any other name will still discourage spending all the same.

Man you are a trip.

People "like me" should not only vote but should try to make sure people like you never hold any real government power. If you want the US to be more like Europe you have the alternative option to move to Europe. Problem solved! If you prefer full blown socialism you need only go 90 miles south of Florida and immigrate to Cuba. But where on earth can you immigrate to that upholds the principles of the original intent of the US Constitution? Why should we change our country to be more European? People left Europe and other countries to make a life here because they liked opportunities the ideals of the Constitution afforded.

If I wanted my life to be dictated by the government as people like you appear to I could find some Communist country to be my daddy. No I say! Let the government fear the people for where the people fear the government there is tyranny.

I was watching a segment that had Martin Luther King's niece as a guest and she saw some parallels between the media treatment of the Tea Party and the Civil Rights movement. I invite you to go back and look up what some respected publications had to say about the Civil Rights movement at the time.

There you have it.

Nice job of offering a rebuttal to Mirage's excellent point about Europe and America and the parrallels between the media treatment of the Civil Rights movement and the Tea Party movement.

Well done, little doggie. Well done indeed.

At one time in our country, only WHITE MEN who owned property were allowed to vote. Women, minorities, and non-property owners were not allowed to. If you would like to experience or live in the dark ages of no rights except for the privileged few, a communist or muslim country might be more to your liking.

I am a citizen, born here and raised here. I pay property taxes and income taxes. I have just as much of a right to vote as anyone else.

If you really want to split hairs on who has a right to vote, according to the narrow definition defined on this board, Senior Citizens, of whom a lot do not pay taxes, because their only source of income is a Social Security check, like my 87 year old mother, have no right to vote either.

You have it wrong Tiger1, seniors that receive social security do have the right to vote! I am talking about and have observed now the last 40 years are the fellow citizens who are on the take from the treasury of our Great Republic. Come on, I know everybody sees it!
Your mother IS entitled to her Social Security because she probably and has contributed to the Social Security Insurance Act the last 40 plus years of her working life. Your mom is a contributing citizen, God bless her. I am appalled by fellow citizens who rely and TAKE from government when they should and could be providing their livelihood THEMSELVES! We, the other half of America, are becoming slaves to pay for the others to live and exist in this country. This is TYRANNY!!!!! Government is rewarding non-productive citizens and punishing the responsible citizens! So, my theory is, if you live off the government (taxpayers) you should NOT be able to vote! Since I am paying for your existence and livelihood, and you have the same rights as me, how does my vote count?!

Speaking of TYRANNY did you hear the story of how DC Park police were dealing with protesters of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" who had chained themselves to the gates of the White House and the police then started harassing reporters trying to cover the story, all on public property? Unreal! Especially given the reporters have a 1st amendment right to report.

Amazing! Just think......that is America today! Wow! Would you ever imagine that our Great Republic has turn into this? Like I said before, "The world is going to cry and be very sad when America is gone!"

Yeah now I'm a liberal Democrat or better yet a Communist... I guess you don't pay attention to anything do you... (read my posts and my user name idiot) My comment about you specifically not being allowed to vote was obviously a joke about you personally, because I think you are an idiot. You think the government should not exist at all and we shouldn't pay any taxes and the criminals should just run the streets free, that is until they do something wrong to you, or your welfare runs out.

I'm not really impressed with your username(s). It's quite obvious that you are nothing less than a political hack. A perfect example is you claiming I am opposed to necessary functions of government when I said cut entitlement spending and PERSONAL income taxes and live within the means of a balanced budget. Did I say eliminate ALL taxes? Nope. But we are indeed being taxed too much with too little benefit. Government has no business being in the business of redistribution of wealth and it certainly has no business giving away $trillions to private corporations.

As to whether you brand yourself Communist, Socialist, Marxist, or Progressive matters little. You can find about any flavor of those elsewhere so there's no need for the US to continue in those directions. That was never the intent of the Constitution nor should it be modified or falsely interpreted towards that end. Our government was intended to be from the local level up to the state and then the Federal umbrella, not from the dictates of the Federal tyrants down to the peons. So it's little wonder you won't fully embrace the Tea Party Movement or sound business practices for government.

To you a good sounding, half baked, lame idea that will cost more money in the end sounds good. I'm beginning to come to the opinion that the problem with liberals is you refuse to grow up kinda like Michael Jackson in Neverland thinking that with enough money you can live like carefree children and the world will all be wonderful.
