The best way to fight political corruption is to elect honest politicians.

For example, the state of Illinois had honest government for 14 years under federal prosecutor Jim Thompson as governor and another 8 years under Jim Edgar. Then George Ryan started selling licenses to unqualified truckers and Rod Blagojevich's corruption turned Illinois into a national laughing stock.

The 43rd Ward of the City of Chicago was one of the most corrupt under alderman Paddy Bauler. Then a group of young people moved in and did not want to pay twice – first paying taxes and then paying the alderman – for city services. They threw out Bauler and elected Bill Singer who was scrupulously honest. After that, if you weren’t squeaky clean, you didn’t dare run for office in the ward.

Crown Point was honest when both Jim Forsythe and Dick Collins were mayor. Then James Metros was elected and “What’s in it for me?” became a standard question at all meetings. Klein and Uran were worse.

There are honest politicians such as Sue Landske and Larry Blanchard. The best way to fight political corruption is to elect honest politicians.

Problem is, voters often don't know who is and who is not honest until after they take office.
IMO, the D or R label doesn't mean a thing.

If a politician has corrupted one or more political offices in the past, they are probably corrupt.

The only true way to fight political corruption is a. educated voters b. high voter turnout of said educated voters.

The way things are now skewer to the corrupt because when turnout is low, their friends and allies decide the election.

So the question shouldn't be, how do we fight corruption. The question should be, how do get people to care enough to get out and vote?

An honest politician in Lake County???? HAHAHAHA!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! ROFLMFAO!!!! You've got to kidding. This is Lake County, people. Eye-watering corruption, sleaze and graft and its been going on for decades. New Jersey might be more corrupt, but not by much. How many hundreds of thousands in bribes, kickbacks and payoffs did it take just to get that new government center built? It is never ending here. Do any you of think things have changed since then? Cohen and Thiros got loaded defending Lake County slimebucket politicians. Remember Vince "Wad" Kirrin? How about Rudy Bart? Very normal, yes indeed. But only for Lake County. You accept it all and just swallow it.

Most of you have probably never lived anywhere else in your sorry lives, so you think its all very normal. Well, its not normal. Everything from sidewalk scandals to "tax bills whenever they feel like it." Whatever gets done around here requires some under the table money.

Would anyone like to buy this small house of mine so I can get the hell out of Lake County, Indiana, and go back to relative civilization?

(And yes, Mayors Forsthye and Collins were good, but they were mayors, not county politicians and in Collin's case, it was a very long time ago.)

I think one realistic way to at least limit political corruption is to prohibit city council or town board members from holding jobs with their city or town.

There is only one best way to fight political corruption: "Elect honest politicians."

When honest men or women step forward, fight for them.

Ethics ordinances are worthless. They can always be avoided by dishonest politicians.

Two people understand. Unless your job skill level is so low that you can't do anything else but work in government, the retail sector, or the hosptality industry, there is no incentive at all to move to Lake County, Indiana.

Companies won't come to NWI because of the pay-to-play corrupt politics.

Companies can go to locations where they don't have to pay off the politicians.

As long as NWI has its present level of corrupt politics, NWI will be unable to attract industry.

I think all elected politicians should be limited to only two terms. One term in office and one term in jail.
