The Post Tribune has a little story today about a couple of real geniuses in Gary:
Smoking a joint outside police office not swift Comments
July 20, 2010 POST-TRIBUNE STAFF REPORT
GARY -- Two Indiana State Troopers assigned to the FBI-led Gang Response Investigative Unit arrested a census worker and her male companion outside the G.R.I.T. office after they smelled marijuana and tracked down the source.
Troopers Gerald Michalak and Scott Krueger followed the scent to a man and woman sitting just outside the parking lot in downtown Gary. They saw the woman holding a "hand-rolled cigarette" that "she immediately put ... down to her side in an apparent attempt to hide what she was smoking," a news release states.
Rogia E. Robinson, 20, of 1374 Ellsworth St., admitted she was using marijuana. She told the troopers she collects door-to-door census data but was on her lunch break when the officers confronted her.
They arrested Robinson and Doveon G. Terry, 45, of 1946 W. 12th Ave., who are both expected to be charged, police said. Terry told the officers he was accompanying Robinson "because he was concerned for her safety."
