I just got off the phone with Cheleste(sp?) from the Times.

They're denying this had anything to do with McD and the prof and the Porter County "threat" in and of themselves and insist that it is a handful of individuals who abuse the boards with personal attacks and threats. I explained that we are pretty certain that McD had something to do with this since that was the first thread pulled right before the entire board came down.

They want a message board that is professional, family oriented and (from what I perceive) straight out of Mayberry.

I told her they aren't a fluff paper like the CalPress and that we can, and do, police our own. We are a community of different personalities that have informational, indepth, sometimes even heated discussions, but we have learned to live with each other and also wish we had that ignore button.

She agreed.

I explained to her that we have found another venue, but we want our old stomping grounds back, our past conversations and our seniority. She was unaware people were posting to their experimental board and asked for the URL this forum so she could let us know if and when the status of the old board changes.

We also discussed Chairman Mao (not in a negative manner), freetime, her deep relationship with big unit, Hispanic Hero and, of course, that expressZEROSEX kid.

Speaking as someone with at least a little seniority over there I think long term this shut down is a good thing because as I'd said a time or two we really need an independent means to communicate.

To blame ALL the censorship on a few bad eggs would not be accurate based on threads that were pulled. As one poster had commented a certain Cabela's thread got pulled that contained nothing more than what was actually written by the paper itself. The main site was then shut down only a few hours later.

So I'm fine if the site stays down. It is time we consider it an option if it ever comes back but I think most of us want to have free discussions on issues without fear of having our statements pulled because some politico feels we're hitting too close to home.

I don't see any hope in getting our old board back so I have put up my old avatar and I guess I am here to stay. Lets just make the most of it.
