Don't laugh too hard! From the sounds of it soon it will be cheaper to evict & demolish. Then you will be looking for your own POS to feed the utilities meter with. Don't forget that on top of the excesses of NIPSCO your pal Obama wants to add a carbon credit tax to your bill to redistribute your wealth to 3rd world dictators.

Hmm I see gentrification coming apartments will be the thing once again. There are 8 units per building where I live and 8 furnace and community heating ducts going to the roof plus the halls are heated with electric heaters we stay nice and warm with low utilities less than $150 per month walk in closets laundry room large patio plush carpet slaves shoveling the snow and snow plow drivers and tree trimmers and roofers and new appliances when they break free cable television walking distance to the store and doctors office on the bus route 5 minutes from the south shore train.

Water included wash as many times as we want flush as many times as we want.

I can adjust to living in a double wide if necessary :smt005

Think about what I said. Those utilities included arrangements well may be off & gone before long. You might be closer to the truth than you know about Gary becoming more of a trailer park city than it is already.

The landlords just care about making a buck. If it costs money to keep renting a building even when they do little to no upkeep and renting a lot is nearly all profit so it doesn't take long to see which way the property owner will choose.

Nobody twisted your arm and made you sign those papers you did it to yourself !

Have we heard that from across the fence and quit your crying pull yourselves up by your boot straps.

It's the American way you had ample time to come up with solutions the mayors of your cities and towns should have used casino revenue and built wind turbines to help lower the electric rates but no they squandered it all on frivolous projects.

Talk about The Mayors of Gary you knew this problem was looming and the president warned you but just like the grasshooper & the ant party all the way till winter gets here and then go to belly aching.

Gentrification and urban gentrification denote the socio-cultural changes in an area resulting from wealthier people buying housing property in a less prosperous community.[1] Consequent to gentrification, the average income increases and average family size decreases in the community, which may result in the informal economic eviction of the lower-income residents, because of increased rents, house prices, and property taxes. This type of population change reduces industrial land use when it is redeveloped for commerce and housing. In addition, new businesses, catering to a more affluent base of consumers, tend to move into formerly blighted areas, further increasing the appeal to more affluent migrants and decreasing the accessibility to less wealthy natives.

Urban gentrification occasionally changes the culturally heterogeneous character of a community to a more economically homogeneous community that some describe as having a suburban character.[2] This process is sometimes made feasible by government-sponsored private real estate investment repairing the local infrastructure, via deferred taxes, mortgages for poor and for first-time house buyers, and financial incentives for the owners of decayed rental housing.[3] Once in place, these economic development actions tend to reduce local property crime, increase property values and prices and increase tax revenues.

Political action, to either promote or oppose the gentrification, is often the community’s response against unintended economic eviction[4] caused by rising rents that make continued residence in their dwellings unfeasible.[5] The rise in property values causes property taxes based on property values to increase; resident owners unable to pay the taxes are forced to sell their dwellings and move to a cheaper community.[6]

My energy foot print is very small.

The price of gas in Gary averages 10 cent cheaper than Costco where I'm a member.

When food goes on sale here in Gary trust me there are a lot of shoppers coming from south county who use to live in Gary shopping here now.

I was amazed @ all the diversity at the new county market here in Gary sales Know no color they pack the house on sale days.

My sister lives in Crown Point Indiana and she priced around in here neck of the woods for a new air compressor for her car installed.

Crown Point price $1,200
Gary price $456

She moved out there to get closer to the stores now she is bargain hunting back in the old neighborhood and her friends from the congregation have spread the word about the discounts and are flocking back by the thousands and bringing new comers with them.

Brake job South County $360.00
Brake job Gary $100

:smt006

Cuts of meat so thick and juicy it would choke a bear and washing it down with good champagne and wine.

Costco has some good steaks for about $35 per cut ummm ummm good! melt in your mouth

The pork chops are sliced 2 to 3 inches thick.

I love to wash it down with Arbor Mist ummm ummmm :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt006

A new car last about 15 years before it gets 100,000 miles on and then we sell it to get a nice down payment for a new car.

The Ford Taurus was the last car I know of that if well maintained was very likely to take you 100,000 miles without major repair IMO but for some reason then they stopped making it.

It means you don't shop at COSTCO.

Nope. I do still keep a 1980s Taurus in FL though cause it takes a lickin & still keeps on tickin.

No, it doesn't have 100,000 miles. Just 99,900. ;)

BTW I borrowed that old Timex slogan but I got a Timex with the chroma something night illumination over 5 years ago and haven't needed to change the battery yet. Keeps perfect time too. I own a few watches including a 100 year old Elgin pocket watch. But when I travel it's the Timex I wear because it's been dependable and like the clear night illumination.
