While the plants to be closed are both in Illinois, 1 in Calumet City and 1 in Harvey, a large percentage of the workers live here in Northwest Indiana. The irony of this is, the parent company in Wisconsin just got a $440 MILLION dollar contract with the Army to build special haulers for military vehicles. There is no severance pay for any of these workers.

Here are the excerpts from the letter all employees of both plants got this morning:

On October 7, 2010 it was announced that we would be closing the Oshkosh Specialty Vehicles inc. facilities, located at 2150 E. Dolton Road, Calumet City, IL. and 16745 S. Lathrop Avenue, Harvey, IL. These layoffs will occur on December 6, 2010. This letter is being sent to you as an affected employee under the WARN Act. These separations are considered permanent.

Why didn't they just end the letter with "We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year".

You're joking right?

have you even picked up a newspaper or tuned into a tv news channel in the last 18 months?

I thought you claimed to be...''informed''.

Here is a link that shows the name of corporations that have recently outsourced jobs overseas. The Oshkosh closings are too to have made the list yet. The majority of the plant closings are driven by the greed of the CEOs who still draw multimillion salaries while devastating the lives of workers and their communities. Remember, when you go to vote on Nov. 2 that Dan Coats spent six years working as a lobbyist for corporations who were seeking tax breaks and contracts as they closed American plants. He's definitely not someone we need in the Senate representing Indiana.

Shop and buy locally. The largest importer of goods from China is WalMart. Don't patronize them at all. Americans have the power to stop jobs from leaving. Just say no to the imported crap.

It's people like Splorks and his union thug pals that have created a hostile environment for companies here in America. There was a Whirlpool facility in Indiana that closed costing over 300 people their jobs because the union wouldn't negotiate.

Typical.

What crap that people need and buy from WalMart everyday is even made in the USA? I paid 160.00 for a pair of steel toed boots, made in china.

You could have gone to Berey bros and bought a pair of American made work boots for less than that. I bought a pair of composite toe Thorogood boots for about $120. Great boots, very comfortable. Berey Bros. also sells Wig Wam socks. They are the most durable, comfortable work socks I've ever worn. Another store that specializes in American clothing is Poe and Sons,6036 Lute Rd, Portage, IN 46368.American made clothing is better quality and lasts longer than the cheap imported crap. The US manufactures more goods than any other country in the world, despite what they try to tell us in the media. There is only one reason why our jobs are being outsourced and that is because too many Americans are willing to buy the cheap crap coming out of China because like you, they don't believe they have a choice. Here is a link for Thorogood Boots. They are an employee owned company located in Wisconsin that has been making boots since 1892.

In all fairness the unions can't hold a candle to the rules, regulations, tax policies etc. that government at all levels is using to create a hostile work environment. All while claiming to be looking out for the "little guy".

I buy all my boots from Berey Bros. Name the everyday crap Americans buy that is still possible to buy American made. Kids shoes, shirts, place mats, throw rugs, hand tools, tv's, kitchen appliances etc. etc. etc. How would not shopping at WalMart change a damn thing?

Neither party is looking out for the middle class. But,as I said in my previous post, there is nothing to stop Americans from looking out for each other with their shopping habits.
