Socialist utopia has never existed, will never existPosted: Sunday, November 7, 2010
Our resident socialist, Nick Egnatz of Munster, is ranting against capitalism again. One can only wonder if Nick has ever read a world history book. He should follow his own advice and do some research.
Historically, the world's greatest mass murderers have been followers of the socialist/communist ideology.
Nick cites the Homestead, Pa., steel strike in 1892 that caused the deaths of 12 workers, yet fails to mention the 70 million people who were exterminated by communist dictator Mao Ze-Dong during the 1960s.
He criticizes capitalism for the 1919 steel workers strike that caused martial law to be declared in Gary, yet fails to mention the crimes of Joseph Stalin (United Soviet Socialists Republic) in the 1930s -- 14.5 million starved to death; 1 million executed for political offenses; 9.5 million imprisoned in work camps.
He never mentions Pol Pot of Cambodia (1975-79) who wanted to "purify Cambodian society of capitalism" and, in the process, executed or starved to death 1.5 million of his own people.
Obviously, he forgot Adolph Hitler was the leader of the Nazi Party (National Socialist German Worker's Party).
All societies have made mistakes, including ours. However, that pie-in-the-sky socialist utopia Nick yearns for does not exist. It never has and never will!
