I have a problem. I have a psycho cat. My mom took in a tiny baby tiger kitten some guy in her neighborhood found alone and crying in the street. She hand raised it, feeding it with a baby bottle and cat formula. Unfortunately, she kept it confined to a room in her house so he didn't learn how to behave properly. I agreed to take him in when she asked me to. and he was big enough to eat solid food. He has no idea how to be good. I just got off the phone with my computer guy, trying to straighten out my computer after he pulled the wires out, again. I try to keep him out of my office but he ran in again before I got the door closed. This morning, I awoke again to the shreds of paper towels and toilet paper that he scattered all over the house. I also found an old, broken china cup he knocked off the window sill. I complained to her after I was totally unable to control this guy. She ordered me a natural remedy from a source she has. It was supposed to calm him down, but it didn't help at all. He bothers my older cat endlessly, and he's a very nice, declawed kitty. (also a rescue.) The humane society is not accepting any cats because they are full now. Hammond Animal Control still euthanizes cats that aren't adopted, and I don't want him to be killed although he sort of deserves it. I'm at my wits end with this guy. Any suggestions? |

Yes, fixing him will help. We adopted a male kitten several years ago. After a couple months, my attitude was "Neuter him or send him back". We got him neutered at 4 months old and he calmed down quite a bit. However, he is a chewer, so we need to put shoes away, make sure he can't get to the TP and paper towel, etc. He is now king of the house, even though we have a dog 3 times his weight. However, I would not adopt a male animal again - females are much easier! Karen |

Fix him, give him toys to occupy his time. We have a new kitten and when she does something we don't want her to (like climb on the table) we use a water bottle and spray it and tell her down- that way she'll learn what she can and can't do. Just never hit the cat to punish it, it won't do any good but make it fearful. Oh and like Moby suggested, if all else fails xanax. |

I don't hit animals. I have sprayed him about a million times. I've dumped a glass of water on him when my sprayer wasn't handy and he insisted on walking on the stove while I was making my breakfast. He's got a clip job in his future soon. |

I had a psycho cat. We got her from the Independent Cat Society. I believe that she was not socialized there...not much interaction with people. We put up with her behavior (not using her litter box), hissing, etc. for three years. Even the vet couldn't figure out how we put up with it so long. She finally ended up with a physical problem and we had to put her to sleep. I would never deal with the Cat Society again. |

PLease don't politicize my topic. I've got a real problem with this little dude. It's hard when you want to be kind to a homeless animal and he turns out to be a psycho. My mom, who saved his life and hand fed him with a bottle, got hissed at by him last time she visted. Booklady, I think his lack of interaction with a mama and siblings also hurt him. I'm still hoping to turn him around, but if he scratches at my eyes one more time... |
