USA's Gabby Douglas takes gold in women's all-around
By Kelly Whiteside, USA TODAY

LONDON – The moment was both overwhelming and unbelievable. After U.S. gymnast Gabby Douglas made history by becoming the first African-American to win the all-around Olympic gold, there was so much to process.

Her stunning rise the last months, from a bundle of nerves to a confident star. The joy of winning the most coveted title in her sport. The rocket ship ride from relative unknown to someone now recognized by the President of the United States, Oprah and the rest of the Olympic-watching world.

Then there was this bit of social significance, no small matter. Just 16, she is now a pioneer.

"Someone mentioned that I was the first black American (to win the all-around gold), and I said, 'Oh yeah, I forgot about that!' I feel so honored," Douglas said with a laugh.

Competing in a predominantly white sport, Douglas said, "I hope that I inspire people. I want to inspire people. My mother said you can inspire a nation."

I'd congratulate her regardless, even if I didn't know her race.
Perhaps the "racist" is the one who is obsessed with her race.
Sound like anyone you know?

I rather doubt Rush will be congratulating Ms. Douglas.

One less excuse which the "diversity" can use to justify its general poor performance in modern society.

Besides, the President would be the first to tell her she didn't win that medal on her own. There were coaches, who were probably White. Then there were the guys that assembled the gymnastic apparatus, the airline pilots that got her there--some, if not most of those were almost certainly White. Any idea of the racial makeup of the crew that built the medal podium? There must be at least ONE person here keeping track of such crucial data.

Rush Limbaugh is still on the air? I thought the remark he made about that bitch from Georgetown cost him his show.

Fear not - I'm keeping track.
Over the course of her lifetime, she had four coaches - two black, two white. The team that assembled the gymnastic apparatus was made up of three Poles - one to hold the wrench, two to turn the equipment. The airline pilot who flew her there was black, and his co-pilot was a gay Native American who, I am told, is a brave sucker. The crew that built the podium was comprised of five Mexicans - four to do the actual work that real Americans won't do, and one to keep an eye out for immigration officers.

Rebecca Soni just became the first (White) woman to win a gold medal in two consecutive Olympics in the 200-meter breastroke, and the first women to swim the event in under 2:20. I wonder if she reflected on the fact that she is White. Think Jesse Jackson is calling her up to offer congratulations?

Do they even allow straight guys to qualify for "men's" synchronized diving?

Damn, edge - it must be really blissful going through life not being able to realize that you are being made fun of.

Hey, Region-heads, Reege-tards, and Ree-jects,

Now that it's been established that an American Black person has won a gold medal in Olympic gymnastics, is there a new sense of purpose and discipline among the residents of Gary, Harvey, Ford Heights, Hammond, etc.? Look at how test scores increased and inner city culture thrived after Guion Bluford became the first Afro-naut in outer space. Ditto for the Black renaissances that were launched after Marc Morial and Ray Nagen were elected Mayor of New Orleans, David Dinkins in New York, and most recently, Karen Freeman Wilson (she of the Harvard diploma, white suit, effervescent smile, and big dreams). One certainly hopes that no White person wins a track event under 800 meters and proves that there is no way the Black man can ever get ahead.

You're the one who enjoys this along with Chuck. Gabby wasn't even thinking about it. In steps the race baiting media, edge and chuck. Between the racist Obama and his racist administration I would think your trying to create a civil war . What other motive could there be?

Yet edge gets his rocks off bashing hillbillies. On top of it all these two clowns moved out of the south suburbs ....

Anyone notice all the bullshitz Obama's pulling didn't take place this term? It ALL kicks in...in 2012. Thats because if he would of done it in his first term....this country would sink! Bunch of f'n dumb azzes.

I heard that a reporter asked her what it felt like to the first black medal winning gymnast and she responded that it hadn't occurred to her. She is an American.

I don't get it edge... how in the world did you come to the conclusion that a little girl winning a gold medal somehow be racist?

NBC are the racists...they are the ones who kept mentioning it over and over.

I'm very happy for her myself...she mentioned God and waved the US Flag very proudly.

Good for her.
