The Drudge Report singled out political writer Ryan Lizza of The New Yorker as having the unintentionally hilarious first spin on the reported pick of Paul Ryan to be Romney’s running mate. Lizza immediately started to “tally the risks.”

“For one thing, Ryan has no significant private-sector experience,” he wrote. He wrote this with zero ackowledgment of Obama’s private-sector experience scooping mint-chip at Baskin-Robbins. If the rest of the media follows this line, this is going to be shamelessly biased.

President Obama hasn’t formally taken questions from the White House press corps in more than two months, while on the campaign trail in Iowa yesterday he made time for reporters from People Magazine and Entertainment Tonight.

His last news conference was at the G20 in June, when he answered six questions from three reporters on the European debt crisis, the conflict in Syria, and the notion of politics stopping at the water’s edge.

The White House press corps has not formally been given the opportunity to ask questions of the president on U.S. soil since his appearance in the Briefing Room on June 8 (when he said “the private sector is doing fine.“)

His last formal White House news conference was on March 6.

The president answered a shouted-out question about the shooting at the Sikh Temple on August 6, after the signing of “Honoring America’s Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012.”

Republicans are taking President Obama to task for evading public questioning by the White House press corps for more than eight weeks, while instead granting a series of interviews to entertainment media outlets with whom he discussed largely frivolous subjects. A new web video by the Republican National Committee asks, “why is Obama avoiding the White House press corps?” It features a clip of Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt insisting that the president has fielded substantive questions

The president fielded no substantive questions on news of the day or matters of policy. Instead, he discussed his favorite type of chili, iPod playlist, a desired superpower, and Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit single, “Call Me Maybe.”

President Obama said Monday that he isn’t too worried about two groups of military veterans running campaign ads against him.

Last week, two groups — Special Operations Speaks and Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund – formed to criticize Obama on national security policy, the Osama bin Laden raid and intelligence leaks.

“I don’t take these folks too seriously. One of their members is a birther who denies I was born here, despite evidence to the contrary,” Obama told The Virginian-Pilot. “You’ve got another who was a tea party candidate in a recent election.”

“This kind of stuff springs up before election time,” Obama said.

Obviously, Mitt Romney's selection of Paul Ryan as running mate and their unfolding attack on Democrats robbing Medicare to pay for ObamaCare is forcing a major shift in President Obama's reelection campaign.

As both parties approach their national conventions, Obama is, if you believe his aides, adopting a somewhat unorthodox strategy. Reporters traveling with Obama on his flub-filled, three-day trip across Iowa last week, which we wrote about here, began noticing that the crowds coming out to hear the Democrat for the 79th time were noticeably smaller than on previous trips.

But smaller crowds appearing to see an incumbent president is all part of the new plan, Obama aides maintain. Apparently, Obama's team is intentionally working hard to minimize the turnout of supporters at such events. And it's working.

Campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki, sought to explain the counter-intuitive approach for a campaign seeking to connect with the maximum number of voters:
