OBAMA DOES PRESS INTERVIEW -- WITH GLAMOUR MAGAZINE
Image
Yet another push in President Barack Obama's soft-media strategy, unearthed this morning by WWD's Erik Maza:

Editor-in-Chief Cindi Leive flew to Portland, Ore., last month to sit down with the president for an interview that will appear in the magazine’s November issue. It is not the first time Obama has sat down with Glamour — he did so in 2008, along with John McCain — but it is his first time as a sitting president. ...

Glamour pitched them on a big audience, said Washington editor Linda Kramer Jenning. “There’s a lot of attention being paid to young, women voters,” Jenning said. “That’s the calling card that opens the door.” It took five months to lock down some face time.

Jenning said Leive asked the president about women’s health care, among other topics, even though the interview took place before the recent uproar over the antediluvian comments about rape by Missouri Rep. Todd Akin.

Two in ‘Republican women
for Obama’ ad exposed as Democrats

Daily Caller, by Jeff Poor

Although the ad got a lot of playtime on MSNBC Friday, a recent so-called “Republican women for Obama” video advertisement has turned out to be a disingenuous campaign ploy.

That ad, posted on the official Barack Obama campaign YouTube page on Friday, claimed to show a group of women that had previously voted Republican but later abandoned the party because they felt it went too far to the right, leaving them no alternative but to vote for President Barack Obama this November.

The problem is, so far two of these women have been shown to be Democrats who had previously supported Obama.

Ask Me (Almost) Anything: President
Obama dodges tough questions during
his 30 minute Reddit session

Daily Mail [UK], by Meghan Keneally

President Obama opened himself up to an ‘Ask Me Anything’ question session on Reddit this afternoon but appeared quite picky when it actually came answering.

Over the course of the half-hour session when the President logged on to the social news website, he only submitted ten answers to the vast string of questions posed.

The ones he did answer were met with fairly generic responses, none of which provided new insight to his plans for policy changes or thoughts about the current campaign.

The sole exception being that he said that, after a petition of 25,000 signatures was collected recently, the recipe for the beer that is brewed in the White House will be released soon.

‘It will be out soon! I can tell from first hand experience, it is tasty,’ he wrote.

The other questions he did answer ranged from a non-committal statement about investments to the space program, his work-life balance, and his favourite basketball player (Michael Jordan, ‘I’m a Bulls guy’).

When it came to more serious matters, he reflected on how ordering the surge in Afghanistan was the hardest decision of his term, and a sympathetic note of encouragement for a recent law school grad who asked how President Obama hopes to improve the economy since it still remains difficult to find a job.

Dems defend Obama on debt,
say balancing budget now a bad idea

FOX News

After a week of withering attacks on President Obama's fiscal record, top Democrats on Sunday defended the president's plans for shaving down the deficit -- but said balancing the budget now would actually be a bad idea.

Senior campaign adviser David Axelrod, speaking on "Fox News Sunday," repeated claims that Obama's plan would cut the deficit by $4 trillion over the next decade, bringing the budget shortfall down to a point that would "stabilize" the debt.

"And then, with growth, we'll be in a position to begin reducing it further," he said.

But, when pressed, Axelrod would not say when the president's plan could bring the budget into balance. With the deficit clocking in at more than $1 trillion once again this year, he suggested that's not the goal in the near-term.

"What's necessary is to stabilize the debt and then work from there," he said. "You can't balance the budget in the short term, because to do that would be to ratchet down the economy."

Axelrod was referring to warnings that to act too quickly to close the deficit would deprive the economy of needed federal dollars at a time when it is barely growing and is creating jobs at a still-modest pace.

A recent Congressional Budget Office report said that if tax rates rise and sweeping defense cuts go into effect as planned in January, it could result in the economy contracting by .5 percent and unemployment rising to 9.1 percent -- even though the tax hikes and defense cuts would help to close the deficit.

The unemployment rate now is 8.3 percent. .

Carrying Obama's Bags
American Spectator, by Aaron Goldstein

With former President Clinton due to deliver tonight's keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte on behalf of President Obama, Ryan Lizza dropped this bombshell from the 2008 campaign in an article in the New Yorker:

Tim Russert told me that, according to his sources, Bill Clinton, in an effort to secure an endorsement for Hillary from Ted Kennedy, said to Kennedy, "A few years ago, this guy would have been carrying our bags."

Conservatives, of course, know all too well that if it had been reported that those words were uttered by a Republican there would be no effort spared in ostracizing that Republican from public life. Don't forget that MSNBC personnel fell all over themselves telling us that words like anger, Chicago and golf are racial code words against Obama. But since Bill Clinton was "the first black President," he gets their dispensation.

‘Best weather of the entire week':
Local meteorologist puzzled
by Obama speech move

Daily Caller, by Alex Pappas

Charlotte, N.C. — The chief meteorologist at a Charlotte television station is questioning the decision by Democrats to move President Obama’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention to a smaller venue because of the weather. “Thursday night will likely be the best weather of the entire week,” Brad Panovich of WCNC-NBC TV wrote on Twitter in reference to when Obama’s speech was planned to take place at the outside Bank of America stadium, which can accommodate 70,000 people. The Democratic National Committee on Wednesday announced that the weather

Do the math, Mr President!
Barack Obama hails 'three
proud words: Made in the USA'

Daily Mail

President Barack Obama has spent a day hammering Mitt Romney’s ‘bad math’ tax plan but then twice described ‘Made in the USA’ as ‘three proud words’.

In what is known in politics as ‘doing a Biden’ – the Vice President once said that Obama’s economic plan was about ‘a three-letter word: jobs’ – Obama had problems doing the math at two Florida events in Kissimmee and Melbourne.

Addressing cheering supporters in Kissimmee on Saturday, Obama said: ‘We can create a million new manufacturing jobs in the next four years, because we're selling goods around the world stamped with three proud words: Made in the USA.’

The following day in Melbourne, he repeated the gaffe when arguing that the tax code needed to be changed ‘so we stop giving tax breaks to companies that are shipping jobs overseas’.

He said: ‘Let's reward them for investing in new plants and equipment here in the U.S., and training new workers here in the U.S. … creating jobs right here in the U.S., making products that we sell around the world stamped with three proud words: Made in the USA. That's what we're fighting for. That's the future we want.’

Obama often speaks about his plan to create jobs by rewarding companies that produce goods that are ‘stamped with three proud words: Made in America’.

Russian Ships Displayed at DNC Tribute To Vets
Navy Times, by Sam Fellman

On the last night of the Democratic National Convention, a retired Navy four-star took the stage to pay tribute to veterans. Behind him, on a giant screen, the image of four hulking warships reinforced his patriotic message.

But there was a big mistake in the stirring backdrop: those are Russian warships.

While retired Adm. John Nathman, a former commander of Fleet Forces Command, honored vets as America’s best, the ships from the Russian Federation Navy were arrayed like sentinels on the big screen above.

These were the very Soviet-era combatants that Nathman and Cold Warriors like him had once squared off against.

“The ships are definitely Russian,” said noted naval author Norman Polmar after reviewing hi-resolution photos from the event. “There’s no question of that in my mind.”

Naval experts concluded the background was a photo composite of Russian ships that were overflown by what appear to be U.S. trainer jets. It remains unclear how or why the Democratic Party used what’s believed to be images of the Russian Black Sea Fleet at their convention.

Fighter jets in Democratic
convention’s military montage
were Turkish, not American

Daily Caller, by Neil Munro

The Democratic Party’s national convention in Charlotte, N.C., may have doubled down on insulting the U.S. military community.

The Democratic National Committee has already apologized for using a photo of four Soviet-era Russian warships in a giant stage backdrop intended to illustrate the party’s support for military personnel and veterans.

That huge image, visible in the Time Warner Cable Arena during speeches by Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and retired Admiral John B. Nathman, also depicted a synchronized formation of jet aircraft that convention-goers assumed were American fighter planes.

But the F-5 fighter planes in the photo are part of the air force of Turkey, a nation whose government is now jailing journalists and establishing Islam as a state religion.

Brad Woodhouse, a spokesman for the Democratic National Committee, did not respond when the The Daily Caller asked why the convention planners displayed Turkish-flown aircraft alongside Russian warships while seeking support from the American military community.

On Sept. 12, Democrats apologized for using the picture of Soviet-era, Russian-operated ships after the slip up was first reported by the Navy Times. The Navy Times also received a tip that the planes depicted may have been from the Turkish Air Force. (NAVAL EXPERT: Ships shown during Democratic convention tribute to veterans were Russian)

Chris Matthews Says 'Unemployment

Obama Took Office - It
Was Only 7.8%

Newsbusters, by Noel Sheppard

"When your guy left town, Dubya - who nobody asked him to come back by the way at the Republican convention - unemployment was well past ten percent and skyrocketing."

So falsely said MSNBC's Chris Matthews to conservative talk radio host Roger Hedgecock on HBO's Real Time Friday (video follows with commentary):

Well past ten percent? Hardly!

According to the Labor Department, the unemployment rate was 7.8 percent in January 2009 when George W. Bush left office. It didn't get to ten percent until October of that year:

Image

This is an indisputable fact. There's no grey area here. Unemployment was at 7.8 percent in January 2009.

Yet Chris Matthews, a long-time commentator for NBC News who infamously bragged about Obama giving him a thrill up his leg while proudly claiming right after the 2008 elections that it was his job to make the new president successful, went on national television Friday and said "unemployment was well past ten percent" when Bush left office

An Obama Revelation: Supporters
Marking Their Right Hands

American Thinker, by Stephen McRoberts

The Obama campaign recently asked its followers to write messages on their right hands and, with their hands pressed over their hearts, pledge their allegiance to Obama by posting these pictures on Twitter or Facebook. A number of celebrities such as Natalia Portman, Scarlett Johansson, and Jessica Alba complied.

Of course, for those who are not part of the Obama cult, such actions, as well as the very request, are creepy. The act seems more an expression of quasi-religious adoration of and not just political support for Obama.
