The White House is opposed to a bill that was proposed in the House that would ban sex-selection abortions.

In defending President Obama’s opposition to the bill, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said it would force abortionists into the position of trying to determine the “motivations” behind a “very personal” decision.

During the White House press briefing Wednesday, Fox News reporter Ed Henry asked, “since the president has been outspoken about being against gender-based discrimination, how can you allow gender-based abortion?”

Women are infallible in matters of abortion. If any woman chooses to abort females only, who are we to question her very personal choice? How dare anyone even question her motivation?

Didn't the same sort of discussion come up when it was proposed that there may be genetic test which might be able to determine homosexuality? Activists were concerned that there may be an uptick in the abortion of fetuses predisposed to the homosexual lifestyle.

And, in the name of cultural tolerance and diversity, how can anyone, especially a teacher, denigrate China or any other nation by intimating that their laws and traditions have any less value than ours? If any culture embraces clitoridectomies and/or single-sex abortions, we should tolerate and celebrate their choices.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) refused to answer questions about Senate Democrats paying their female staff members less than male staffers on Thursday. She may have ducked the question because a Washington Free Beacon analysis shows she pays the women on her staff $26,606 less per year on average.

According to publicly available salary data at the website Legistorm, Pelosi’s female employees earned an average annual salary of $96,394 in fiscal year 2011. Male employees earned $123,000 on average, a difference of 27.6 percent.

The gap is even larger if calculated using the median salaries for men and women. For Pelosi’s female employees, the median annual salary was $93,320 in 2011, compared to $130,455 for male employees — a difference of $37,135, or 40 percent.

Pelosi’s entire staff — men and women — earned an average annual salary of $108,150 and a median salary of $114,662. By both measures, women made considerably less.

The number of American women who are unemployed was 766,000 individuals greater in May 2012 than in January 2009, when President Barack Obama took office, according to data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In June, there had been 66,929,000 American women employed. In July, that dropped 66,754,000–a month-to-month decline of 175,000.
