The Usual Suspects: ABC's Ross,
Stephanolpoulos Point to Tea
Party in Dark Knight Shooting

Big Journalism, by Joel B. Pollak

On Good Morning America, ABC News' Brian Ross and George Stephanolpoulos suggested that the Tea Party might be connected to the mass shootings early this morning in an Aurora, CO theater during a screening of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. The mainstream media attempted to blame the Tea Party for the Tuscon shootings in January 2011, shortly after Republicans swept the midterm elections. Now, in the critical 2012 elections, the mainstream media seems poised to do the same--and ABC News has led the way.

Here is the exchange between ABC News chief investigator Brian Ross and host George Stephanopoulos about apparent suspect James Holmes:

Stephanolpoulos: I'm going to go to Brian Ross. You've been investigating the background of Jim Holmes here. You found something that might be significant.

Ross: There's a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year. Now, we don't know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But it's Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado.

Stephanolpoulos: Okay, we'll keep looking at that. Brian Ross, thanks very much.

How interesting that Ross and ABC News should think to look to the Tea Party website first--and to broadcast politically volatile information without verifying if that "Jim Holmes" is the same as the suspect.

Twitchy Documents Liberals
Blaming Rush Limbaugh for
Aurora Movie Theater Shooting

NewsBusters, by Ken Shepherd

Our friends at Twitchy have an astounding roundup of tweets from liberals who are blaming Rush Limbaugh for the movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado.

None of the folks they featured are liberal celebrities or members of the media, but given how the media have blamed conservative talk radio for mass shootings before, it would not be surprising if liberal journalists and pundits today pick up this thread and tug on it.

Tea party familiar with being wrongly blamed after horrific tragedies
Daily Caller [Washington DC], by Alex Pappas

It’s now a familiar knee-jerk reaction: The tea party movement is blamed in the immediate aftermath of a horrific tragedy.

The end result is also familiar: Those suggesting the tea party is responsible are proven wrong.

Brian Ross of ABC News became the latest person to end up with egg on his face after news of the Batman shooting massacre in Colorado broke Friday. On ABC’s “Good Morning America” Friday morning, Ross rushed to report that someone with the same name as 24-year-old suspect James Holmes was listed as a member of the Colorado Tea Party Patriots.

“There’s a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colo., page on the Colorado Tea Party site as well, talking about him joining the tea party last year,” Ross told host George Stephanopoulos. “Now, we don’t know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But it’s Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colo.”

ABC's Tea Party Smear: Buck Stops with Stephanopoulos
Breitbart's Big Journalism, by John Nolte

George Stephanopoulos is the anchor of ABC's "Good Morning America." So doesn't the buck stop with him and with the show's producers for what happened Friday morning? Using the scantest of circumstantial evidence, investigative reporter Brian Ross chose to use the horrific massacre in Aurora, Colorado, to create an anti-Tea Party narrative with this smear:

There's a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year. Now, we don't know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But it's Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado.

But if you look at what Stephanopoulos said before and after Ross's appalling "reporting," it's safe to assume Stephanopoulos knew what was coming:

Stephanolpoulos: I'm going to go to Brian Ross. You've been investigating the background of Jim Holmes here. You found something that might be significant.

Ross: There's a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year. Now, we don't know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But it's Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado.

Stephanolpoulos: Okay, we'll keep looking at that. Brian Ross, thanks very much.

You can view the video below. Not only does Stephanopoulos tee up the Ross smear by claiming it "might be significant;" afterwards he doesn't sound in the least surprised by what Ross says.

As most of the neocons on this board do not mind the idea of profiling...I suggest that in the near future any younger white affluent person should be picked out and patted down by the authorities to make sure they are not intending to participate in the mass killing of people...
