FBI Again Says: Nothing Illicit In Flynn Case

No one seriously expected any. Nothing to see here.

The FBI is not expected to pursue any charges against former national security adviser Michael Flynn regarding a phone call with Russiaâ€™s ambassador, barring new information that changes what they know, law enforcement officials told CNN Thursday.

Flynn was fired by President Donald Trump earlier this week after it was revealed that he withheld information from Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with Sergey Kislyak, Russiaâ€™s ambassador to the US. A US official confirmed to CNN last week that Flynn and Kislyak discussed sanctions, among other matters, during a December call.

Flynn initially told investigators sanctions were not discussed. But FBI agents challenged him, asking if he was certain that was his answer. He said he didnâ€™t remember.

The FBI interviewers believed Flynn was cooperative and provided truthful answers. Although Flynn didnâ€™t remember all of what he talked about, they donâ€™t believe he was intentionally misleading them, the officials say.

Trump Signs Bill Undoing Obama Coal Mining Law

Another one bites the dust.

President Trump on Thursday signed legislation ending a key Obama administration coal mining rule.

The bill quashes the Office of Surface Miningâ€™s Stream Protection Rule, a regulation to protect waterways from coal mining waste that officials finalized in December.

The legislation is the second Trump has signed into law ending an Obama-era environmental regulation. On Tuesday, he signed a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution undoing a financial disclosure requirement for energy companies.

Both the mining and financial disclosure bills are the tip of a GOP push to undo a slate of regulations instituted in the closing days of the Obama administration. The House has passed several CRA resolutions, and the Senate has so far sent three of them to President Trump for his signature.
