US job market shrugs off fears of 'fiscal cliff'
Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. job market proved resilient in December despite fears that a budget impasse in Washington would send the economy over the fiscal cliff and trigger growth-killing tax hikes and spending cuts.

Gallup Poll: Barack Obama Just As Polarizing As George W. Bush
Image
Wasn’t Chicago Jesus suppose to heal the country of partisanship or something?

Quote:
President Barack Obama’s fourth year in office clocks in as one of the most polarized years in recent history, a new poll says.

According to a Gallup survey posted Thursday, in Obama’s fourth year in office, he enjoyed an 86 percent average approval rating from Democrats, but only a 10 percent average approval rating from Republicans — a gap of 76 points. Going back to at least the 1950s, only President George W. Bush, in his fourth year in office, had a gap equally large: from January 2004-2005, Bush had a 91 percent average approval rating from GOP voters and a 15 percent average approval rating from Democrats, Gallup showed.

Pew Poll Finds For First Time Majority Of Americans Think Federal Government Threatens Their Rights, Freedoms
Image
53% believe it, that leaves the other 47% that Romney talked about who pay no federal income taxes.

Yes?

Quote:
For the first time, a majority of Americans believe the federal government threatens their rights and freedoms, according to a poll released Thursday.

Fifty-three percent of Americans believe the government is a threat, and 43 percent do not, according to a Pew Research Center poll. Three-in-ten Americans believe government constitutes a major threat. In a poll conducted October 2003, only 45 percent saw government as a threat to their freedoms. Fifty-four percent do not.

Men are more likely than women to believe their rights are under attack, and Republicans (70 percent) are far more likely than Democrats (38 percent) to say so. Three-quarters of conservative Republicans say so, as do 55 percent of independents. And as President Barack Obama begins a legislative push for stricter gun control laws, 62 percent of those with a gun in the home believe their rights are threatened, compared to only 45 percent of non-gun owners.

And even Americans who don’t feel threatened by Washington distrust the government and are frustrated with it. Only 26 percent of Americans believe the government does the right thing most or all of the time, and 73 percent think it does the right thing rarely or not at all.

Distrust is highest among whites — 79 percent of them say government rarely does the right thing, compared to 59 percent of blacks and 54 percent of Hispanics. Distrust is also lowest among those 18-29. Thirty-five percent of them trust the government to do the right thing most or all of the time, 10 points higher than any other age group.

Obama: Hell No I’m Not Done Raising Taxes! … “No Doubt We Need Additional Revenue”
Image
Nor did anyone think you were.

Quote:
President Obama has said all along he isn’t done raising taxes on wealthy Americans, and he said it again in an interview that aired on CBS during the Super Bowl.

A month after signing a bill that raised tax rates on families making $450,000 or more (and individuals making $400,000-plus), the president said he now wants to close “loopholes.”

‘I don’t think the issue right now is raising rates,” Obama said. The goal now is to find “smart spending cuts,” “reduce health care costs,” and “close loopholes and deductions.

Higher Taxes, Rising Gas Prices, Stagnant Employment Chill Spending
Image
Recovery? What recovery?

Quote:
Retailers are preparing for a triple whammy as the restoration of the payroll tax, surging gas prices, and stagnant employment and wages take a bite out of consumers’ disposable income, leaving them with less cash to spend on clothing, groceries, and eating out.

As a result, more than three years after the recession officially ended, American consumers might be preparing to downshift again, if only slightly, with low-income consumers hit the hardest. Sensing consumer trepidation, retailers are scrambling to adjust.

Retailers, restaurants, and consumer goods companies like Wal-Mart are lowering sales forecasts and adjusting marketing campaigns ahead of expectations that consumers will slash spending, the Wall Street Journal reports.

In a survey released Thursday, the National Retail Federation (NRF) said some 46 percent of consumers plan to spend less as a result of the payroll tax increase. One-third said they will reduce dining out and one-quarter will spend less on “little luxuries,” like manicures and trips to coffee shops.

Obama Exploring Ways To Reduce Our Nuclear Defenses Without The Required “Advice And Consent” Of Senate
Image
Well.....he did say he'd have more flexibility after the elections.

Quote:
President Barack Obama’s efforts to significantly curtail U.S. nuclear weapons without seeking the proper Senate approval are at best misguided and worst illegal, sources tell Newsmax.

Obama is exploring opportunities to achieve the reductions in infrastructure and capability he seeks – including a drawdown to 1,000 weapons – without seeking the advice and consent of the Senate that international treaties require.

Efforts to push the boundaries of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) with Russia are ill-advised, sources say. A proposal that seeks to achieve nuclear arms reductions outside the framework of New START, however, would run afoul of the law.

“A presidential announcement that would try to do a nontreaty agreement would be prohibited by the code,” Baker Spring, a research fellow in national security policy at the Heritage Foundation, tells Newsmax.

Obama Department Of Housing Launches Campaign To Encourage Muslims To File Discrimination Complaints
Image
CAIR overjoyed.

Quote:
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is launching an advertising campaign to “educate the public” about housing discrimination, saying there is a “persistence of discrimination based on religion.”

The public service announcement campaign will feature television, radio and print ads in English, Spanish, and Chinese around the theme “Fair Housing is Your Right, Use It.” HUD has observed April as “Fair Housing Month” since 1969.

In a press release announcing the media campaign, HUD said it is designed to “educate the public and housing providers about their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act.”

The campaign will encourage individuals to file complaints under the Fair Housing Act of 1968, which made it illegal to discriminate in the sale or rental of housing based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, familial status or disability.

A Muslim woman wearing a hijab is the subject of one ad that says, “Is religious discrimination keeping you out of the home of your dreams?”

The ad then tells people to look out for these “possible signs” of housing discrimination: “I’ll show you neighborhoods with mosques”; “We only take people who speak English clearly”; and “You might be more comfortable living elsewhere.”

HUD said the poster of the woman “wearing traditional Muslim headdress highlights the persistence of discrimination based on religion.”

March Unemployment Report: 663,000 Americans Drop Out Of Labor Force, Economy Adds Only 88K New Jobs
Image
Chuckslow is wrong again, as usual, and the slow motion train wreck continues.

Quote:
The U.S. economy added fewer jobs in March, a sign of weaker growth heading into the spring.

nth, the Labor Department said Friday. The unemployment rate, obtained by a separate survey of U.S. households, fell one-tenth of a percentage point to 7.6%.

Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires expected that nonfarm payrolls would rise by 200,000 and the unemployment rate would hold steady at 7.7%

Offsetting some of March’s weakness, February payrolls were revised up to a gain of 268,000 from the originally reported 236,000, while January was revised to a gain of 148,000 from the previously reported 119,000.

Number Of Americans On Disability Hits Another All-Time High In May, 10,978,040 Now Collecting SSDI
Image
Top two reasons people go on SSDI: Bad back and I’m sad, both nearly impossible to disprove.

Quote:
The total number of people in the United States now receiving federal disability benefits hit a record 10,978,040 in May, up from 10,962,532 million in April, according to newly released datafrom the Social Security Administration.

The 10,978,040 disability beneficiaries in the United States now exceed the population of all but seven states. For example, there are more Americans collecting disability today than there are people living in Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey or Virginia.

The record 10,978,040 total disability beneficiaries in May, included a record 8,877,921 disabled workers (up from 8,865,586 in April), a record 1,939,687 children of disabled workers (up from 1,936,236 in April), and 160,432 spouses of disabled workers.

April was the 196th straight month that the number of American workers collecting federal disability payments increased. The last time the number of Americans collecting disability decreased was in January 1997. That month the number of workers taking disability dropped by 249 people—from 4,385,623 in December 1996 to 4,385,374 in January 1997.

“Change” Is Officially Dead: Obama Scrubs Web Of 2008 Campaign Promises Including Whistleblower Protection
Image
Unfortunately for Dear Leader, the Internet never forgets.

Quote:
Amid the Obama administration’s crackdown against whistleblowers, Change.gov, the 2008 website of the Obama transition team laying out the candidate’s promises, has disappeared from the internet.

The Sunlight Foundation notes that it last could be viewed on June 8, which was two days after the first revelations from Edward Snowden (who had then not yet revealed himself) about the NSA’s phone surveillance program. One of the promises Obama made on the website was on “whistleblower protections:”

“Often the best source of information about waste, fraud, and abuse in government is an existing government employee committed to public integrity and willing to speak out. Such acts of courage and patriotism, which can sometimes save lives and often save taxpayer dollars, should be encouraged rather than stifled. We need to empower federal employees as watchdogs of wrongdoing and partners in performance. Barack Obama will strengthen whistleblower laws to protect federal workers who expose waste, fraud, and abuse of authority in government. Obama will ensure that federal agencies expedite the process for reviewing whistleblower claims and whistleblowers have full access to courts and due process.”

The White House did not respond to multiple requests for comment on why the page was deleted. The site had offered a way to compare Obama’s promises and administration actions and still can be viewed on the Wayback archive.

Obama’s Sinking Leadership: Half of Americans Now Believe Founding Fathers Would See The U.S. Today As A Failure
Image
Hope and change!

Quote:
A new Rasmussen poll shows just how disillusioned Americans have become with the direction of their own country, over four and a half years since President Obama took office. According to Rasmussen, barely a third of US voters think the nation’s Founding Fathers would view the United States as a success today. 49 percent think the opposite:

Quote:
Abraham Lincoln famously declared at Gettysburg that the Founding Fathers “brought forth on this continent a new nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” But half of Americans think the Founding Fathers would view the nation they created as a failure today.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 34% of American Adults think that if the Founding Fathers came back today, they would consider the United States a success. Forty-nine percent (49%), however, say the founders of this nation would view what it’s become as a failure. Seventeen percent (17%) are not sure.

It will be hard for the White House to dismiss these findings as anything other than a resounding vote of no confidence in President Obama’s leadership from half the country. A Gallup poll released in July, asking a similar question, was just as bad, with 71 percent of Americans saying the Founding Fathers “would be disappointed” with “the way the United States has turned out,” up from 50 percent in 2004, and around 60 percent in 2009.

Americans remain deeply patriotic – 85 percent say they are “extremely/very proud” to be American according to Gallup. But they are increasingly disenchanted with the course the world’s superpower is taking, hardly surprising with a sluggish economy, 7.3 percent unemployment, rising taxes, a $17 trillion national debt, and a new health care law that is hugely unpopular.

Census Bureau: Welfare Recipients Now Outnumber Full-Time Workers
Image
Work harder everyone, millions of Obamabots are depending on you.

Quote:
Americans who were recipients of means-tested government benefits in 2011 outnumbered year-round full-time workers, according to data released this month by the Census Bureau.
They also out-numbered the total population of the Philippines.

There were 108,592,000 people in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2011 who were recipients of one or more means-tested government benefit programs, the Census Bureau said in data released this week. Meanwhile, according to the Census Bureau, there were 101,716,000 people who worked full-time year round in 2011. That included both private-sector and government workers.

That means there were about 1.07 people getting some form of means-tested government benefit for every 1 person working full-time year round.
