Is this a great country or what?
When they say this country is run by corporatons, it's not a joke anymore:
Quote:

Justices Overturn Key Campaign Limits
By ADAM LIPTAK
WASHINGTON — Sweeping aside a century-old understanding and overruling two important precedents, a bitterly divided Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that the government may not ban political spending by corporations in candidate elections.

The ruling was a vindication, the majority said, of the First Amendment’s most basic free speech principle — that the government has no business regulating political speech. The dissenters said allowing corporate money to flood the political marketplace will corrupt democracy.

The 5-to-4 decision represented a sharp doctrinal shift, and it will have major political and practical consequences. Specialists in campaign finance law said they expected the decision, which also applies to labor unions and other organizations, to reshape the way elections are conducted...

It just reinforces the fact that all of our politicians are bought and paid for. Special interests and corporations are going to make the individual voter irrelevant.

Matt, you're absolutely right.
What's really funny & fascinating is that ignorant simpletons think that the ruling will only help conservative republicans which of course is nonsense.
For example, Wall Street gave more to Obama than McCain in 2008.
Special interests and corporations will back whoever is ahead in the polls.
Its amazing that morons think that this good.

I wonder when CONgress is gonna be put up for auction on E-Bay? I can just see the descriptions, "you own a business that needs Military Contracts?,(insert Senator's or Representatives name), you will be guaranteed a back door deal.

It's already for sale and it has been for a long time. Now it has been given a healthy dose of Chicago thug politics which doesn't seem to have helped matters much.

Go figure.

You are right, and that is one of the reasons that there has been no meaningful financial reform passed by the Obama Administration and the Democratic controlled Congress. Not that it would have happened with a bought Republican Administration either.

And before you bring up Obama's speech today. Barney Frank has already gutted it, and the Wall Street companies have already figured out loopholes big enough to drive a truck thru.

Now elections are going to be a race to see who can spend the most money. You will have the Unions, big business, and even foreign governments (thru their sovereign investment funds buying US businesses) trying to control elections thru millions spent.

I guess that's better than all the "magic" votes that happened to appear out in Minnesota.

Let the games begin.

Yeah well I know for certain that republicans would NEVER do this:
Quote:
Obama announces dramatic crackdown on Wall Street banks

Obama's 'new Glass-Steagall Act' will prevent banks with customer deposits taking risky investment bets

Let's hope the banks have enough money left over to run ads against bin Obama and his fellow Democrat gang bangers in the next election.

This is going to be great.

Oh and good luck with that...... :smt007 :smt006

Obama's speech today would have done nothing to prevent the meltdown we had. His proposals would not and will not affect Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG, or Lehman Brothers. And he is well aware of it. It is populist rhetoric that he knows is either irrelevant or will be gutted.

Barney Frank said ...
Quote:
Frank said any mandate to make banks sell hedge funds or private equity immediately would be a mistake.

"I will be supportive of this with no less than three, maybe five years before it's done," he added. "To order this to be all done all at once, it would be a fire sale and I would be opposed to that happening."

And here is an article already from wall streets perspective ....

http://www.businessinsider.com/big-banks-have-already-figured-out-the-loophole-in-obamas-new-rules-2010-1

Quote:
Big Banks Have Already Figured Out The Loophole In Obama’s New Rules

Big banks have already begun poking the holes in Obama’s new rules—holes they expect their banks to pass through basically unchanged.

The president promised this morning to work with Congress to ensure that no bank or financial institution that contains a bank will own, invest in or sponsor a hedge fund or a private equity fund, or proprietary trading operations unrelated to serving customers for its own profit.

But sources at three banks tell us that they are already finding ways to own, investment in and sponsor hedge funds and private equity funds. Even prop trading seems safe.

A person at one big Wall Street
bank said it expects that new regulation will affect less than 1% of its overall business.

The key phrase is “operations unrelated to serving customers.” The banks plan to claim that much of the business in which it engages is related in one way or another to serving customers. Even proprietary trading, for instance, can become related to customer service if it is done through internal hedge funds in which some outside clients are permitted to invest.[/quote]

I guess the banks got something for all the money they gave Obama, Frank and Dodd.

And now that the Democrats have their 30 pieces of silver they plan on going after the banks......

Dodd is already gone and methinks the banks are now going to exact their revenge on the other 2 scumbags.

I hope.
