Nicholls supports Uran? That is surprising, unexpected and disappointing.
Dave Nicholls was appointed by Mayor Uran to be Crown Point City Attorney.
He comes from East Chicago and is alleged to have been a bag man for Mayor Pasterick. He is well versed in East Chicago practices. Nicholls, Keith Stevens and Uran are doing their best to turn Crown Point into East Chicago South.
They are skilled at turning failures into profit centers for politicians. For example, after the Plasmatronics venture failed, the city of Crown Point paid $200,000 in legal fees to Nicholls and Ice Miller - both of whom contributed handsomely to the Uran Campaign war chest. It is estimated that an
additional $200,000+ was skimmed from the $380,000 loan. And there are tens of thousands of dollars worth of machinery and parts that cannot be located.
Others have been implicated. For example, political fund-raiser and power broker Dan Dumezich may have convinced Governor Daniels to come to Crown Point on April 24, 2007 (10 days before the primary where Klein was defeated by Van Sessen). At that April 24 ceremony, Mayor Klein and Governor Daniels announced the Plasmatronics loan. It is hard to believe any one other than Dumezich could have delivered the governor. According to a Times article, there was no due-diligence whatsoever done at the Indiana State-level, although the state granted Plasmatronics tax credits (not cash, like Crown Point) and recommended the Plasmatronics loan to Crown Point.
Depending on the size of the Bo Jackson bond issue, Nicholls should receive $100,000+ Not bad when the Indianapolis bond lawyers will do the lion's share of the work. Such fees have been known to be spread around.
