With that mentality, no one should complain that the best candidates are not on the ballot.
What I think you're failing to grasp here is what a special case you yokels in LC really are. If the very best potential candidates (whoever they may be) aren't interested in running for office, its because for half a century the bulk of the voters have been ready, willing, and eager to look past just about any offense as long as Democrats remain in control and there are enough do-nothing jobs, taxpayer-funded cars, tobacco, alcohol, and whatever else helps anesthetize the senses of Regionites to go around. Its been a long time coming, but it does seem to finally be catching up to you. If you had a responsible job or owned a business, would you be willing to step away from that knowing full well all your opponent had to do was mention that his grandfather blocked for your wife's grand-uncle back on the legendary '49 Rough Riders? It may not even be true, but Region etiquette dictates that you pay homage to Pete Rucinski by facing north, bowing, and then voting for that Democrat. Its sort of a variation on throwing good money after bad. Touch that hot stove often enough and even Steve Fowler would learn to quit reaching into the burner--unless there was a Marlboro in the middle of it.
