Mayor Uran of Crown Point and Merrillville Town Manager Shawn Petit gave their state of da region addresses to da Crossroads Chamber of Commerce last week.

In summary, 1) da region is losing jobs, 2) da region taxes are going up a lot and 3) da region debt is exploding. Public debt in Crown Point doubled from $20 million to $40 million in just 2011.

Location: Stupid Liberals!
So they are doing to Lake County what Dumbo is doing to America, what did you expect from democrats?

Somebody obviously forget to tell these guys about the cutting-edge "One Region, One Vision" initiative. Then there's that "diamond in the rough", the Gary Airport. You've got that potash company setting up shop in Hammond, the Menard's expansion, the gleaming Bo Jackson sports complex in Crown Point, and Munster Steel is going to be moving a few miles north into Hammond. Most exciting of all, Gary has a new Harvard-educated mayor who will be as transformative to Da' Region as The Affirmative Action President has been to the nation. Great things are in store for NWI--just ask Kuziak and Reardon.

Da Region has lost jobs at companies like Dawn Foods, Carroll Chevrolet, Home Lumber, Bieker Construction , Trump Ironworks and many others.

Da Region is sharply increasing its public debt. Crown Point public debt has increased from $20 million to $40 million just during 2011.

According to the Lake County Assessor, our taxes are set to climb rapidly in 2012.

Our politicians are buying our votes with our own money which is filling their pockets.

I thought Hank Adams was the Shining Light that was going to lead the thoroughly corrupt Lake County Democratic political establishment in a new direction. How can he justify raising taxes when the downturn in home values should really be hitting home about now? Has he come to the realization that if he does his job as he is supposed to, his trips to political conferences in Honolulu and San Diego could be out the window?

Hank Adams who is a shining light just does the computation. He doesn't raise taxes.

Taxes are raised by the corrupt politicians who are spending money on sportsplexes, huge new libraries, and overspending their budgets.

But as assessor, and as a supposed reformer, shouldn't he at least place assessments that have some grounding in reality?

Hank Adams is honest and doing an excellent job as assessor.

However Mayor Uran of Crown Point has increased public borrowing from $20 million to $40 in one year. Lake County spent more than it's budget. Crown Point spent more than it's budget.

The Crown Point School Corp passed a sizeable special assessment.

Crown Point's city legal fees have risen from $25,000 a year to $364,000 in 2011.

Uran has come up with another tax and spend scheme.

He wants to make landlords pay a permit fee for every apartment or house they rent out.

It is a good idea that rental properties be maintained decently, but Uran's ordinance is terrible. It reads like it was written by city attorney David Nicholls or city judge, Kent Jeffirs the authors of the dsasterous Plasmatronics settlement agreement.

They are shooting at a fly on the wall with a canonball.

Nicholls turned the city attorney budget from $25,000 to $324,000 last year.

Kent Jeffirs destroyed the Crown Point Chamber of Commerce, the Crown Point Development Corp. and is overseeing the destruction of the Crown Point City Court.

Our taxes are rising to pay politicians who can't bring jobs to the area.
